Fall Is Here

We want to thank everybody for a great summer!

Now that fall is here, it's getting colder, and there are fewer vegetable to offer. We will still be open with limited hours with a selection of fall produce, including winter squash, potatoes, onions, apples, etc. We'll have pumpkins until Halloween, and after Thanksgiving we'll be here with a full selection of Christmas greenery. We hope to see you as the season continues, and have a lovely autumn.

Veggie Season!

Our CSA folks have started getting their deliveries of our own delicious vegetables. Everything that was in this week's box is available on the stand for anyone who wants to stop by for some.

Swiss chard, radishes, beet greens, scallions (OMG, yummy scallions!), lettuce, cauliflower, rhubarb, and local strawberries. You want a big, fresh salad just looking at it, admit it.

Coming Up Green

See those strips of green in the field back there? Those are your lettuce and your peas. They're coming up lovely, and in a few weeks, here come the veggies!

Let's get started in the garden! We're open for the season, and we have plenty of plants that you can put in now.

Pansies, beautiful and blooming. Available in packs, pots, and hangers.

Vegetable plants. Many varieties of lettuce, including French Batavian lettuces, which are some of the best lettuces we have ever grown. Onions in many different types: red, yellow, and white varieties in sets, and other red, yellow, and white varieties in plants. Our broccoli is beautiful, come check it out!

Perennials. A wide assortment: English daisies in flower, creeping phlox, hostas, and a whole lot more.

And welcome back from the long, cold, snowy winter. Weather permitting, Smith Farm will open for business on Friday, April 8. You've been dreaming of green all week-- come by in April to see what we have to show you.

Dreaming of Spring

We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season. In just a few short weeks, we'll be working in the greenhouses to start the seedlings for our fields and your gardens later in the spring. Until then, thanks for a great Christmas, and happy New Year to everyone!

Fall into Winter

Well, the season's wrapping up, but we're not quite done with you yet. Our fall hours vary from day to day, so call us at 603-881-8210 for information. We still have a few vegetables, and we have PLENTY of squash! Stock up for Thanksgiving.

Also come by for local honey, Ya Mamma's Italian sauces, Pelham Inn salad dressing, and Charli's dried herbs.

And right after Thanksgiving, don't forget to come by early for New Hampshire-grown Christmas trees, plus wreaths, kissing balls, greens, and all the greens you need for your holiday decorations!

Summer's Bounty

Summer's here, everyone, and that means it's time to start eating locally. You can't tell me you wouldn't enjoy some native New Hampshire treats.

Like any of our own produce--lettuce, peas, scallions--or other local offerings--rhubarb, strawberries, cherries.

We're still open till 7pm on weekdays, which means you can stop by on your way home from work and have strawberries for dessert tonight.

Food and Beauty

Smith Farm is looking pretty gorgeous right about now. We've got flowers bursting out all over. It's worth coming down just to look around at the colors and blossoms and possibilities, even if you're not in the market for anything for your garden.

And food season has begun! Look for our own lettuce, which is coming up green and juicy.

And come down to pick up some local strawberries from Brookdale Farm in Hollis, and some local rhubarb.

What? You don't know what to do with rhubarb? Don't worry--we have recipes! Coffee cake, pie, sauce--it's a great compliment to other fruits, or on its own with some sugar.

Try this one: Oatmeal Rhubarb Crumble
1 cup flour
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup melted margarine
3 cups diced rhubarb
1 tablespoon water
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup rolled oats
1/2 tsp cinnamon

Combine flour (reserving 1 tablespoon), 1/2 cup sugar, salt, and oats. Stir in margarine till mixture is crumbly. Press half of mixture over bottom and sides of a 9" pan. Combine rhubarb, 1/2 cup sugar, reserved tablespoon flour, cinnamon, and water. Pour into crust. Sprinkle remaining mixture over rhubarb. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes, till rhubarb is tender.

See? Not hard at all. And don't you really, really want some rhubarb now? We can help you with that. Come on down!

Pears and Other Produce

Even if it's not time to start your garden yet, stop in for some produce! We have some excellent pears, as Adam will testify.

Ask Tom for one of the pears that his grandson liked so much. They're excellent!

This is where we start our plants from seed. Unlike other plant sellers who only buy and sell, we start our own. Our vegetable plants available for you to buy, here are the same ones we grow in our fields. They are generally better than you find at the "big box store," or even the supermarket. Our plants are grown so they will be acclimated to this area. We don't only buy and sell; we grow and plant. Come to our farm and see why local is better.
